My step-cousin and his wife are expecting their first child in October so, of course, it means a handmade gift from me. One of my favorite sewing/quilting books is Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts and I decided to make one of my favorite projects out of that book. I think I've made at least 4 or 5 of the projects from the book, which is a lot for me!
This little baby blanket is quick and easy to sew. A yard each of two coordinating fabrics, some batting, sew it all together and then "quilt" it with some evenly spaced "ties". I think one of the longest steps was marking the locations of the "ties". They're announcing the sex of the baby at the shower so I went with gender neutral colors that I think are also bright and fun. I love polka dot prints and I thought those birds were super cute.
I'm looking forward to meeting the new addition and wish they lived closer so Adam would have a new playmate!
